Kindergarten registration will once again be held in conjunction with the annual Kiddie Fair. This will be convenient for parents of children who need to participate in both events. Kiddie Fair will be held in Monroe County at the Lindside Family Life Center on the following dates and times:
- Tuesday, Apr. 11 – 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
- Wednesday, Apr. 12 – 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Children age birth to four will be given a free developmental screening. Information will be made available to parents concerning many of the different agencies providing services in Monroe County. Children age birth through 24 months will be given screening tests in the area of social/emotional skills, gross and fine motor, receptive and expressive language/ and self-help skills. Children age 2 years through 4 years of age will be given screening tests in the areas of hearing, vision, speech and language, fine and gross motor, general knowledge, comprehension and number concepts.
You may pre-register by calling 304-772-3284. If no one answers, please leave a message that includes your name and phone number and someone will call you back. Walk-ins are welcome up to one hour before closing.
The primary purpose of this screening is to provide parents with information concerning their child’s development. The results of these screening tests will be used to determine if further evaluation is needed. Further evaluations will be conducted only if parents give their permission for additional testing. Testing results will be discussed with parents at the Kiddie Fair. If someone other than a parent is bringing a child, you will need to send a signed statement saying that you give permission for your child to be screened/ and whether the results are to be sent to you, or to be discussed with the designated person. Even if your child has participated in the Kiddie Fair in previous years, you are encouraged to have your child participate again. Yearly developmental screenings helps determine if a child is developing and learning as he/she should.
Program services for four year olds and eligible three year olds cannot be provided until enrollment is complete. To successfully register your child for a program or kindergarten, you will need to bring to Kiddie Fair all the items listed below:
1) Birth Certificate – official state issued certificate with raised seal
2) Immunization Record – required
3) Dental Records – most recent
4) Physical – most recent
5) Proof of Income (this is needed to determine placement in Early Head Start or Early Head Start)
In addition to the screening, there will be refreshments and activities for the children. Kiddie Fair is sponsored by the Monroe County Universal Pre-K programs, Head Start and the Monroe County school system.
