It was a lot of fun bragging about how well our team wrestled at the State Championships in Huntington in my last article. Actually, I enjoy talking about the success of each and every one of our team members. If you saw how hard they trained and the effort that they gave, you would be bursting with praise too. We were very Proud of all the school records that we broke at the State Championships. However, as Coaches, we were even prouder of the sportsmanship and class that we displayed while representing Greenbrier East High School. We are truly turning out future success stories. A big reason for our success this year falls squarely on the shoulders of our assistant coaches. I can never give them enough praise. (And I won’t…HA!) Seriously, the Greenbrier East Wrestling Family is BLESSED to have Lou Withrow, Mark Solak, Tracy Asbury, Billy Thomas and Andy Evans to help guide and mold the future of these wrestlers on and off the mat. A great Hall of Fame Coach that I once worked with said, “You don’t have to have the best coaches to succeed, but you do have to have the right coaches!” Well, let me tell you, we have the right coaches! The ones that believe in each and every one of our wrestlers. They are truly unselfish and want what is best for each wrestler. Plus, I enjoy being with each and every one of them. So, the next time that you see Lou, Mark, Tracy, Billy or Andy, make sure to say THANK YOU. It’s their loyalty that breeds success.
TRIVIA: Speaking of Coaches. Can you name which one of our assistant coaches was on a State Championship team here in West Virginia?

E.G.M.S. UPDATE: I just had my meeting with the 8th graders from EGMS wanting to be part of our successful wrestling program next year. The future looks bright.
MILUK HUMOR: I don’t want to say that my brother Timmy smelled when he was young, but when he played in the sand box, the cat kept covering him up. Ha!

TRIVIA ANSWER: The coach who was on a State Championship team in West Virginia was Tracy Asbury. He played football for Poca High school when they won the title. They were also State Runner-ups. The year was… well, the helmets were leather. Ha!
