The Greenbrier East Wrestlers set an all-time record for the most wrestlers qualifying for the West Virginia State Championships. At the Regional Championships in Beckley, we qualified 10 wrestlers for the State Championships. It was Fun!
Even better, we took 13 wrestlers and everyone placed in the top six. Even better, better, Jasiel Kinder became the first Greenbrier East Wrestler to ever win an individual Regional Championship three times. WOW! Our State Qualifiers were Cameron Zobrist (Soph.), Jasiel Kinder (Sr.), Logan Evans (Jr.), Jacob Hefner (Soph.), Levi Hobbs (Soph.), Jacob Thomas (Soph.), Leslie Campbell (Soph.), Ethan Asbury (Jr.), Aaron Davis (Soph.) and Sheldon Simmons (Sr.). Our other three place-winners were Cayden Hoover (Fr.), Jacob Smith (Fr.) and Brent Miller (Sr.).
NEWS UPDATE: Jim Rohan has officially been honored and named as “THE VOICE” of Greenbrier East Wrestling! Jim did a fabulous job announcing at the Coalfield Conference Invitational and also was Great at the Regionals.
Now it is off to Huntington to compete on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
TRIVIA: This is the first time in Greenbrier East history that we have three wrestlers with over 40 wins in a single season. Can you name them?
Upcoming events and highlights
The Greenbrier East Wrestling team is currently in Huntington at the ‘Big Sandy’ Arena for the State Wrestling Championships. Wrestling started on Thursday and the Finals will be Saturday evening. Check for exact times and updates at WVMAT.com. I will also try to post updates on twitter @CoachMiluk.
E.G.M.S. UPDATE: A Big-Thank you goes out to Head Coach Bryan Bush for his successful season. More importantly, it was Coach Bush who stepped in to keep the program going in the right direction after losing our coaches from last year. Coach Bush also stepped up to help as the ‘Tournament Director’ for the Coalfield Conference Invitational Tournament. He a true team player.
MILUK HUMOR: The Grades just came out for all our wrestlers and I remember what my Dad said to my brother, Timmy, when he got his report card. He said “Timmy you should go into Oceanography, because all your grades are below C level.” (Ha!)
