Greenbrier East Wrestling Newsletter

HAPPY NEW YEAR! The Greenbrier East Wrestlers finished in 3rd place at the Parry McCluer Tournament this past weekend. The highest finish ever for a Greenbrier East Wrestling team at that tournament. There were 17 different teams and we got the opportunity to compete against some of the top teams in Virginia. We had seven wrestlers place in the top three at their weight class. Jasiel Kinder (120) and Charles Withrow (182) were CHAMPIONS! Keegan Mickey (170) and Joe Sampson (195) finished in 2nd. place, while Josiah Solak (170), Levi Nelson (220) and Evan Roberts finished 3rd. Other Wrestlers who won matches for us were Katie Ervin (5 wins), Logan Evans (7 wins), Sheldon Simmons (3 wins), Michael Villars (3 wins) and Paul Flowers (5 wins). Adam Zimmerman beat his opponent (who took 3rd place) and left the tournament with a bad stomach virus after that win to improve his season record to 12-2. Our other top Wrestlers with winning records are Jasiel Kinder (22-2), Keegan Mickey (20-4), Josiah Solak (19-2), Logan Evans (19-6), Evan Roberts (19-7), Charles Withrow (17-0), Joe Sampson (15-6) and Levi Nelson (15-2). Again, I am VERY PROUD of ALL the Greenbrier East Wrestlers. I Love this team!!

TRIVIA: This past week the West Virginia Wrestling rankings were published on WVMAT.COM. Can you name the Greenbrier East Wrestlers that are ranked in the Top 10 in the state?

Upcoming events and highlights

This Saturday, Jan. 4, we will be wrestling in a tournament in Alleghany, VA. We are the DEFENDING CHAMPIONS! (I love to hear that phrase). It is a one-day tournament with five Dual Meets. It will get us started in the right direction for the New Year.

MARK YOUR CALENDAR! Wednesday, Jan. 8 at Greenbrier East High School, we wrestle Beckley at 6 p.m. It is our only home Dual Meet. Please come out and support the team. It will be Seniors Night. We will recognize our seniors that evening.

EGMS UPDATE: The EGMS wrestlers travelled to Ohio to compete in one of their toughest tournaments for the season. They finished in 2nd place out of 27 teams. I am so impressed with their program. Great People, Great Athletes, Great Wrestlers!

MILUK HUMOR: I am reading a Book about anti-gravity… it seems like I just can’t put it down. (Ha)

TRIVIA ANSWER: It is just a ranking but our Wrestlers are being recognized throughout the state. Jasiel Kinder, Josiah Solak, Levi Nelson, Charles Withrow and Evan Roberts are all ranked in the Top 10 in West Virginia. Adam Zimmerman and Keegan Mickey have also beat Wrestlers who are in the rankings.
