In case I did not mention it last week, I want to remind you that we are the REGIONAL CHAMPIONS! THAT’S FOREVER!

Now for some results from the state tournament. YES! I did say some results. Because of a few circumstances and decisions by the WVSSAC only 11 of the 14 weight classes were wrestled in Huntington at the state championships. The remaining three weight classes (145, 152 and 170) will compete in Fairmont on Mar. 13 and 14 to complete the state tournament.

The Greenbrier East wrestlers that did compete in Huntington wrestled very well. Returning place-winner Logan Evans placed sixth. Jacob Thomas and Cayden Hoover finished in the top eight. Also one match away from placing were Andre Escobedo and Aaron Davis. Ethan Asbury, Zach Mullins and Zach Enox won matches and finished in the top 12 at the championships.

Now, with Levi Hobbs, Jacob Hefner and Leslie Campbell competing in Fairmont, we will have a chance to finish in the top 10 as a team and break a few more school records. Again, it is off to the state championships (part II) where we will continue to DREAM ON!

There were a lot of distractions, complaints and adversities from the postponement of the state championships for these three weight classes. However, this is one of those moments in time that can define the person that overcomes these setbacks. Adversity builds character. In times like this, I go back to a child’s philosophy: “The child does not despise the bubble because it burst; he immediately sets to work to blow another one.” Move forward as an even better person!

TRIVIA: This year we broke the school record by having four individual regional champions. Can you name them?

Upcoming events and highlights:

We will be at the state wrestling championships (part ii) at the Fairmont Armory on Monday and Tuesday, Mar. 13 and 14. Check WVMAT.com for times, results and updates. Also, follow us on Twitter @coachmiluk

Please go to Facebook at WOAY Sports. There was a great video on WOAY Sports that gave our wrestling program some great recognition for their efforts. Great job to Tom Beal. He is Big-Time!!

SAVE THE DATE: The state wrestling championships (part ii) are Mar. 13 and 14 in Fairmont.

Our wrestling banquet has been moved back to Tuesday Mar. 28.

E.G.M.S. UPDATE: Open mats for all incoming freshman after the conclusion of the state championships.

MILUK HUMOR: I’ve been working 25/7 on some new daylight savings time jokes. Ha-ha!

TRIVIA ANSWER: The four Greenbrier East Wrestlers that won regional championships this year were Cayden Hoover (Soph.), Andre Escobedo (Sr.), Jacob Hefner (Jr.) and Jacob Thomas (Jr.).
