I just got back from the NCAA Division 1 Wrestling Championships that were held in Cleveland, OH. It was the Super bowl, NBA Finals, and the World Series all rolled into one. I was truly blessed.
While in Cleveland, I realized how lucky I was to be influenced by so MANY successful people throughout my wrestling and coaching career. There is greatness all around, and they will help, if you have the courage to succeed! Next week at our wrestling banquet, I will have the opportunity to thank the wrestlers, families and friends who accepted many challenges and became better people because of their effort to overcome adversities. “Be a good person first, then be a good wrestler” is a phrase that is posted in our wrestling room and preached by our coaches daily. Well, this year’s team showed the community that you can be both!
Trivia: The Greenbrier Wrestling team has never had a freshman win a Regional Championship and/or place at the State Championships. This year we did BOTH. Can you name the wrestler(s)?
Upcoming events and highlights: Our wrestling banquet will be on Tuesday, March 27 at 6 p.m. in the W.V.U. Building on the State Fairgrounds. I can guarantee you that there will be a lot stories, laughs, tears and memories created. Please stop by and enjoy the time with family and friends. REMEMBER, “You cannot have great memories without great moments.”
E.G.M.S. update: Congratulations to Brad Blevins for winning the Jr. State Championships this past weekend in Beckley. There were almost 1,000 wrestlers at this tournament. Look for big things to happen for this hard-working wrestler.
Eastern Greenbrier Wrestling Club: Congratulations to all the Wrestling Club members who competed for a Jr. State Wrestling Championship this weekend. Special Congrats go to Bella Arbogast for being the CHAMPION! Other place-winners were Tucker Hale (7th), James Godby (7th), Matthew Kesterson (5th), Elijah Weikle (6th) and Will Godby (4th). This was by far the best finish for our Youth Wrestling program. Great job parents and coaches.

Miluk humor: I could tell that one of my wrestlers did not lift weights very often, because when I asked him, “What’s your favorite machine at the gym?” he said “Vending.” … Oh brother!
Trivia answer: The two freshmen that accomplished this feat were Landen Hoover, who placed 6th in the state and Colby Piner who won a Regional Championship. The future looks bright!
