The Greenbrier East Wrestling Team started its Varsity season in Point Pleasant, West Virginia, and yes, many of us went to the Mothman Museum. However, that wasn’t the only attraction in town.
They hosted a 24 team Dual Meet Tournament with competition from both West Virginia and Ohio. Eight of those teams finished in the Top 10 in the state last year. Well, (drum roll)… WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS! It was the most wild, crazy, fun, exhausting, rewarding tournament that we have ever won! I love this team! Leading the way for the Spartans were Cayden Hoover (8-0), Levi Hobbs (8-0), Jacob Thomas (8-0) and Leslie Campbell (8-0). The other wrestlers who picked up huge wins were Jacob Hefner, Drew Bashlor, Landen Hoover, Alex Zimmerman, Bruce Humphreys, Waymon Browning, Austin Dilly, Colby Piner, Aaron Davis, and Zach Mullins. Remember these names because they are all champions on and off the mat.
Meanwhile, Coach Asbury took some of our “Green Team” Wrestlers to the Richwood Tournament where Levi Fisher, Chase Zobrist, Owen Quinn and Branson Sharp all succeeded. As Jerry Bradley would always say, “It’s a Great day to be a Spartan!”
Trivia: (3 parts) Who leads the team in wins this season? Who leads the team in Pins? Who leads the team in Takedowns?
Upcoming events and highlights: Our first home Wrestling meet (The Greenbrier Duals) will be on Saturday, Dec. 16 starting at 11 a.m. Please come out and show support for our team. Next Friday, Dec. 15, we will host the AAA Region 3 Dual Meet Championship with George Washington, St. Albans and Riverside. It starts at 6 p.m. in Spartan Gym.
E.G.M.S. update: The E.G.M.S. Wrestlers went to Independence to compete in a Duals Tournament. Robert Dunz Blevins was 5-0 while Chase Martin and Destiny Ballard were 4-1. The team finished 4-2, beating two teams that they lost to in the opening week. Great job, EGMS! Coach Joe Heath is already showing progress.
Eastern Greenbrier Wrestling Club: Congratulations to all the Wrestlers who competed at the Nitro Tournament. Will Godby, James Godby and Bella Arbogast took first place. Will Godby also won the Sportsmanship Award, which was a Bible. I love it! That’s what Greenbrier County Wrestling is all about!
See Coach Miluk or one of our current Wrestlers about our “Adopt a Wrestler” program. It’s a great way to support our team and follow the success of our Wrestlers. Follow us on Twitter @CoachMiluk and Facebook at Greenbrier East Spartan Wrestling.
Miluk humor: My wife says that I never listen to her. At least I think that’s what she said. (I’m in trouble now!)
Trivia answer: The Wrestler who leads the team in wins is Drew Bashlor with 11. (None bigger than the win against Point Pleasant). Cayden Hoover leads the team in pins with six, and Leslie Campbell leads the team in takedowns with 17.
