The Greenbrier East Wrestlers finished in 10th place out of 28 Teams at the nationally ranked Christiansburg, VA “Big Blue” Tournament. The exciting part was that we had three Wrestlers in the finals. WOW! That is Big-Time. We have never even had one person in the finals before this year. We are very proud of Jasiel Kinder, Josiah Solak and Levi Nelson for placing 2nd. Keegan Mickey also placed 6th to receive an award. Speaking of Awards, at the end of the Tournament the Greenbrier East Wrestling Team was presented a Plaque of Appreciation for Sportsmanship. It was given as a tribute to honor one of the prominent referees in Virginia and the Regional area. It was GREAT to be recognized by all the Teams and referees. It also reassured our belief that we always promote being a great person first then a great Wrestler. This has been a fun season. Thanks to everyone that has helped along the journey.

TRIVIA: How many different weight classes are there for High School Wrestling Teams?

Upcoming events and highlights

This Tuesday, Jan. 28, we will finally and hopefully (weather permitting) celebrate Senior Night against Beckley. The wrestling match begins at 6 p.m. with the Seniors being recognized and honored. Please come out and pay tribute to our Senior Wrestlers.

MARK YOUR CALENDAR!

Friday, Jan. 31, the Wrestling Team travels to Greenbrier West to wrestle the STATE CHAMPIONS at 6 p.m. It is actually the County Championships for all three levels. The Youth Team and the Eastern Greenbrier Middle School Team will also compete against Western Greenbrier. We would love to get a great crowd there to watch some of best wrestlers in the State of West Virginia. Rumor has it that there may be fan bus for 30 people. (More info to follow.)

Follow us on Twitter @CoachMiluk and the new Facebook page Greenbrier East Spartan Wrestling. Also, watch for our “Greenbrier East Wrestling Highlights” on your local cable channel 5. A Big Thank You goes to Joe Sharp and Greg Zafros for their efforts.

EGMS UPDATE: The EGMS wrestlers travel to Huntington for the toughest Middle School Tournament in the State of West Virginia. Good Luck!

MILUK HUMOR: With all this cold weather I was wondering. If it’s zero degrees outside today and it’s supposed to be twice as cold tomorrow, how cold is it going to be?

TRIVIA ANSWER: There are 14 different weight classes for High School Teams: (106-113-120-126-132-138-145-152-160-170-182-195-220-285).
