Congratulations! The Greenbrier East Wrestlers are now the 2x defending Champions of the Beckley Newspaper Invitational Wrestling Tournament. It was FUN! However, that was just part of our busy weekend. On Friday we wrestled Greenbrier West. Out of the 14 matches, both teams had 7 victories. It was a close and very competitive match, but Greenbrier West won 34-30. Coach Tincher did a good job with his wrestlers. The next morning, (VERY EARLY) we went to Shady Spring to defend our B.N.I. Tournament title. We took 12 wrestlers and 11 placed in the top 4. We were pretty happy. Our 8 finalists were Jasiel Kinder (Champ), Logan Evans (Champ), Jacob Thomas (Champ), Aaron Davis (Champ), Jacob Hefner (2nd), Levi Hobbs (2nd), Ethan Asbury (2nd) and Sheldon Simmons (2nd). Leslie Campbell (3rd), Josh Amos (3rd) and Cayden Hoover (4th) also placed. Bruce Humphrey competed and helped us win the Championship. Along the way, Logan Evans won his 100th match as a Greenbrier East Spartan. Great Job!

Upcoming events and highlights
The Greenbrier East Wrestling team will be hosting the Coalfield Conference Invitational Tournament at Greenbrier East High School this weekend on Friday Feb. 5th at 6 p.m. and Saturday at 10 a.m. The finals will be at 4 p.m. on Saturday. You will see Great Wrestling with MANY State Champions and Place-winners competing. It will be a Fun atmosphere. Be There!

E.G.M.S. UPDATE: The Eastern Wrestlers travelled to Huntington for the rescheduled WSAZ Wrestling Tournament. It is by far the toughest tournament in the State. Jacob Piner (5th), Zach Mullins (8th) and Alex Zimmerman (12th) all placed in the top 12.
MILUK HUMOR: I broke a mirror in my house and I’m suppose to get seven years bad luck, but my lawyer, Brandon, thinks he can get me five. (HA!)

TRIVIA ANSWER: The Greenbrier East Wrestler to be the first Spartan to win a Coalfield Conference Championship was Rick Ramsey in 1978. Greenbrier East did not win another Championship until 1992, when Chris Whitman won it at 160 lbs.
