The Master Gardeners of Greenbrier Valley and the Greenbrier County WVU Extension office are offering their annual ten week series of classes leading to a Master Gardener certificate. Classes will begin on Thursday, Sept. 10 and take place every Thursday through Nov. 12. The classes will be held at the West Virginia University Building at the WV State Fairgrounds in Fairlea. The WVU building is located on the north end of the fairgrounds next to the Demonstration Garden. Classes begin at 6 p.m. and end at 9 p.m.
Topics covered in the classes include composting, soils and fertilizers, plant propagation, pest control, growing vegetables and fruits, pruning, and a variety of other topics of interest to gardeners. Cost for the series of classes is $80 which includes all class materials and the Master Gardener manual.
Classes are open to anyone interested in learning more about gardening and in volunteering to help in various Master Gardener projects including the Demonstration Garden at the fairgrounds. There are currently approximately 50 active Greenbrier Valley Master Gardeners in the organization which began 13 years ago in Greenbrier County.
