mary-elizabeth-wickline-arbaughAlderson-Mary Elizabeth Wickline Arbaugh, 90, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, went to be with the Lord on Monday, Oct. 10, 2016, at her home on Muddy Creek Mountain, Alderson, surrounded by her loving family, following a short illness.

Born December 17, 1925, in Monroe County, she was the daughter of the late James Rollie and Anna Fay Humphreys Wickline.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her childhood sweetheart and loving husband of 72 years, the Rev. Charles Baylous “Doodle’’ Arbaugh, Jr., on Mar. 29, 2014; brother, Junior Wickline; sister, Katherine Arbaugh; grandson, Jack Wayne Surgeon, Jr.; and nephew, Jackie Wickline.

Mrs. Arbaugh attended Alderson schools and was a homemaker. She was a charter member of the Alderson Church of the Nazarene, Muddy Creek Mountain, Alderson, since 1954, where she was a former Sunday School teacher, a member of the Missionary Society and formerly served on the official board of the church. She also helped her husband organize the Peterstown Church of the Nazarene in October 1958, and as a devoted pastor’s wife, she traveled for over 20 years as he voluntarily pastored at Peterstown, Marlinton, Hinton, Gap Mills and Alderson Nazarene churches. Mrs. Arbaugh was a former member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Tri County Memorial VFW Post 6723, Alderson. She loved to bowl and enjoyed bowling tournaments and at one time was a member of a bowling league in Lewisburg. She was very supportive of her husband and son, who raised and showed shorthorn cattle as R-Bar, Inc. and enjoyed watching them compete at the state, regional and national levels. But above all, Mrs. Arbaugh loved to spend time with her family, especially her granddaughters.

Survivors include: son, Charles R. Arbaugh of Alderson; daughter, Chita Surgeon of Alderson; granddaughter, Katrina Alderson and husband William of Alderson; two great-granddaughters, Katelynn Alderson and Alyssa Alderson of Alderson; a very dear friend, Nury Castillo of Alderson; sister-in-law, Margaret Wickline of White Sulphur Springs; nephew, Dickie Arbaugh and wife Paula of Summersville; two nieces, Joan Arbaugh of Ronceverte and Wanda Carr of Ronceverte; several great-nieces and great-nephews; special friends, Junior and Shirley Hedrick of Peterstown and Denny and Phyllis Ferguson of Peterstown; and many other loving relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, Oct. 15, at the Alderson Church of the Nazarene, Muddy Creek Mountain, Alderson, where the Rev. Ed Midcap officiated. Burial followed in the Phillips Family Cemetery on Muddy Creek Mountain, Alderson. Friends called Saturday at the church before the service.

Serving as pall hearers were: Joey Deem, Colton Phillips, Pat Phillips, Lonnie Spencer, Joe Baker, Bob Martin, Willie Alderson and Jamie Wickline. Serving as honorary pallbearer was Bones Baker.
