Main Street White Sulphur Springs recognized its 2013 volunteers, organization and business of the year recipients at its 4th Annual Jack Daniels BBQ fundraising event on July 20. Executive Director Sadie Fraley, along with 2012’s Volunteer of the Year Award recipient, Joyce Poe; Mary Collins, MSWSS Board Member; Garnette Haynes; MSWSS Board Member; and Mayor Lloyd Haynes made the presentations.
Kathy Glover and Katherine Shelton were recognized as the Volunteers of the Year for their work with the West Virginia Dandelion Festival. The White Sulphur Springs Civic Center committee received the Organization of the Year for their efforts to preserve the city’s heritage and provide facilities for community functions at the former White Sulphur Springs Jr. High and High School. Committee Members, Joan Gunnoe, Linda and Larry Wakeford, Katherine Carroll, and Joyce Bolt were present to receive the award. The Business of the Year award was presented to Lynch Construction, represented at the event by owner Henry Lynch, in appreciation for their financial support of the Dandelion Festival fireworks and assistance with various beautification projects throughout the town.
“Volunteers and Business Partners are an integral part of the Main Street WSS Organization,” stated Sadie Fraley. “Shared concern and commitment of others, both in the volunteer and financial capacity, are important cornerstones for a successful program,” said Fraley.
This is the fourth year the Jack Daniels Barbecue has been held at 50 East Casual Dining & Spirts in an attempt to raise funds for new and continued Main Street’s many beautification projects. The event is also sponsored by Gillespie Flowers and Productions and The Mason Jar.
