The Greater Greenbrier COVID-19 Task Force met on Wednesday, Apr. 8, via conference call and reports the following information.
- Health Department: Out of 228 total tests in Greenbrier, 199 are negative, 4 are confirmed positive, and 25 are pending. Please remember the importance of social distancing, especially in the next two weeks. Our peak in WV is expected to occur around Apr. 17. In terms of Easter services, drive-in services are acceptable as long as cars are parked more than 6 feet away, windows are rolled up, and we maintain social distance.
- Schools: Meal delivery continues today. (The distribution may be running a bit behind due to late food deliveries.) Instructional contingency planning continues on the county and school levels. The Board of Education will meet next week and the public may listen online. Details TBA.
- Long Term Recovery: Meal distribution continues today. If you want to become a volunteer, please send an email to volunteer@ggltrc.org.
- WVSOM is distributing food and health packs for truck drivers later this week. Also, local mask production continues!
- GVMC continues to make contingency plans should additional beds be needed. Their staff has been working very long hours and they want to find ways to thank them in the coming weeks!
- Economic Development Corp. is staying in touch with local businesses to meet their needs. They are available to help answer questions about SBA loans, but individual businesses must fill out that paperwork on their own. More and more banks are coming into the SBA loan process now, including community banks and credit unions. Check out the new Greenbrier Valley Virtual Shopping Mall & Food Court on Facebook so you can continue to access your favorite local products.
- Robert C Byrd Clinic: We continue to experience phone issues and apologize for the inconvenience. If you get a busy signal, please call back. We’re working with the provider to solve the issue.
- Seneca Health: We are seeing an increase in need for services. People are feeling tremendously anxious and stressed, particularly those who are essential workers. If you need assistance, you can always call 304-497-0500 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. or call 911 after hours for emergency assistance.
- Homeland Security: We are tracking usage of PPE with first responders and constantly on the lookout for additional PPE. In terms of the request at the last meeting to assist nonprofits with FEMA reporting, a statewide call will be arranged ASAP for all nonprofits who want information. Details TBA.
- Easter: While we would all love to get together in person with our church families at Easter, it’s very important to maintain social distance right now. We are entering our peak time for virus transmission. We want to make everyone aware of safe worship opportunities which are being offered across the county.
