On Oct. 7, the Greenbrier County 4-H Shotgun Team, volunteers, and parents traveled to Fairmont for the State 4-H Qualifying Shoot with combined disciplines of skeet, trap and sporting clays. Our Senior and Junior teams both placed second in the competition!
Holly Waid, senior, placed second and Tyler Deskins, senior, placed fourth in the individual category. They will be representing West Virginia in June 2018 at the National 4-H Competition in Nebraska. Makayla Scott and Anthony Wylie from our junior team also placed in the top five in the state. These 4-H members have been practicing since March and have shot over 12,000 rounds of ammunition. They have devoted approximately 20 to 60 hours to practice.
The West Virginia 4-H Shooting Sports Program encompasses the goals of volunteer leadership, capacity building for youth and families, and environmental stewardship. The program is designed to give youth safe and thorough instruction and training in the use of firearms, enhance self-confidence, personal development, responsibility, and sportsmanship; create an appreciation and understanding of natural resources; and provide volunteer instructors safe and proper instructional techniques and information on how to plan and manage shooting and conservation clubs. Congratulations to Greenbrier County 4-H!
