A murder trial is ongoing in Granville County, NC, against Eric Campbell, who was in a shootout with two local police officers during a traffic stop on New Year’s Day in 2015.
Eric’s father, Edward Campbell, was involved in the shooting as well, but committed suicide while incarcerated as a pretrial inmate. Lt. Jeromy Dove and Patrolman Nicholas Sams of the Lewisburg police department traveled to North Carolina to testify at the trial.
Campbell is being charged with two counts of first-degree murder for the deaths of Granville County couple, Jerome Faulkner, 73, and Dora Faulkner, 62. Campbell and his father killed the Faulkners and their two dogs before setting their house on fire and fleeing in their truck. A scanner picked up the license plates on the stolen vehicle, which led to the Campbells being pulled over by Lt. Dove and Patrolman Sams on Jan. 1, 2015. A shootout followed on interstate 64 before both Campbells were detained.
The trial is ongoing, with more updates to come.
