The Lewisburg Literary Festival returns to historic downtown Lewisburg for two full days of literary celebration this weekend, Aug. 1 and 2. Featured speakers this year include Ron Rash, David Joy, Adriana Trigiani, and Chef William Dissen. Writing Workshops will be held by Adam Gussow, Val Nieman, Linda Zimmer, and Laura Treacy Bentley. While the mainstage events are free, they do require tickets, which have sold out. Visit www.lewisburgliteraryfestival.com for more information.
Workshop offerings at the Greenbrier Valley Visitors Center include a Blues Harmonica Workshop for beginners and others, led by official Hohner endorser Adam Gussow, on Aug. 1 at 6 p.m. On Saturday, Aug. 2, Val Nieman will present “Telling the Tale: The Story in the Poem” at 9:30 a.m.; Linda Zimmer will lead “Writing Like Beatrix Potter” for age 7 through 12 at 10 a.m.; and Laura Treacy Bentley will host “Just Like Flying a Plane” at 11 a.m. Three of the four workshops do still have space; however, “Just Like Flying a Plane” is currently at room capacity for reservations. In the event that any reserved attendees don’t come, there is usually room for walk-ins, accounting to event organizers.
Other Literary Festival events include a downtown StoryWalk featuring interactive pages from When I Was Young in the Mountains; plus the Literary Fashion Contest, performance art, and children’s programming throughout Lewisburg. A Literary Town Square, the festival bookstore hosted at the Greenbrier Valley Visitors Center both days, is a great place to browse and purchase books by featured authors and regional creators.
