Urgent action needed for the animal shelter
Dear Editor:
Greenbrier County is fortunate to have a large and well-funded animal shelter, but that shelter has a significant problem: It designates itself as a “No Kill” facility. Being so means that it is always at full capacity and must turn many people and animals away. This is wrong, and the intent of what the shelter is supposed to address is eliminated, leaving people with nowhere to turn and many animals consigned to suffer.
It ia our obligation in dealing with the overpopulation of dogs and cats to compassionately do the least harm to all of them, knowing there will never be enough caring and loving homes for all of them. Far too many only live lives of neglect, fear and misery.
As a taxpayer of this county, I call for measures that are urgently needed by the Greenbrier County Commission, the animal shelter, and its citizens, to install the right of inclusiveness.
The shelter is not a privately run entity.
Sincerely,
April Crowe
