Lawana Kay Thomas, 72, of Hominy Falls died in her sleep on Thursday, September 26, 2024, at Summersville Memorial Hospital, after recent complications of a chronic illness. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sam; her father Coleman “Snookie”; her mother, Betty; and brothers Nathan Michael, Sid, and Steve.
She is survived by her four sons and their families: Shannon, his wife Natalie, and their children Tanner, Adrienne, Wyatt, and Hazel; Matthew, his wife Amber, and their children Michael, Lilly, and Layla; Adam, his wife Beth, and their daughter Alyssa; and Seth and his wife Kim. She is also survived by her brother Stan and his wife Diane; special first cousin Betty “Meecie” Bennett, and more aunts, uncles, cousins, sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews than we have room to list.
She lived for her family, loved them fiercely, and was an absolute rock through all that life threw at her. In addition to being a constant provider, friend, confidant, and counselor, she found time to work herself through college while helping Sam raise four young sons and became a certified public accountant in Nicholas County. After she closed that business, she pursued retail management out of state until her retirement. She spent the last 12 years of her life in Hominy Falls among her family. In addition to her family, she enjoyed gardening, cooking, reading, taking drives through the backroads, going to antique stores, and being in or near the water whether it be a creek, river, lake, or ocean.
She will be missed greatly by all who had the pleasure of knowing her, and immeasurably by those who had the honor of loving and being loved by her. A memorial service will be held in the near future and details will be shared when finalized. She will be cremated, with her ashes spread in private with her sons and their families.
