The Ladies of the Henning Church of God held their regular monthly meeting Tuesday, Aug. 8, in the church fellowship hall. Carole Spencer presided and Marty Burns blessed our refreshments. Cindy Fleshman later led in prayer.
Joan Vance brought us our devotion. “Using our gifts to serve God and Others,” by Patsy Shank with scripture reference I Peter 4: 10-11 and I Timothy 4:14. We all need to examine our soul to determine our gifts. The author received 23 light gray crocheted squares and wondered what she could do with them. She crocheted around them in different colors and hooked them together to make a blanket. The blanket will be donated to someone in need. This is an example of something small and mundane becoming larger. Gifts come from the heart and soul to bless others. We may never see the results of gifts. What gift do you have that you can use? Some examples include calling someone, baking something, and inviting someone to dinner. Kindness really matters.
Barbara Seldomridge brought us the missionary education report. Mark and Kathy Fulton are missionaries to Haiti. They work in conjunction with the hospital by directing, accounting, and overseeing running it in Haiti. They both attended colleges in Indiana. Mark majored in biology and dental surgery. He also worked as an emergency room medical tech. Kathy majored in business analysis and speech therapy. The hospital opened in Haiti in 2005. It is a Church of God hospital. It provides good paying jobs for the Haitian people. The chaplain leads patients in devotion every morning. This hospital provides affordable health care with Christ as the focus. In 2018, the first baby was born there. The hospital and staff did not know if they were ready. Since 2018 over one thousand babies have been born up to 2020. The country needs peace, that the unit of money will be stabilized, and they will continue to have 24 hour healthcare.
Jamie Harvey gave the treasurer’s report and Pauline Perkins read the minutes from June.
Carole Spencer thanked everyone who helped with the hot dog sale at the auction at Velma Brackenrichs. The mile of pennies has been completed from 2014 to 2023. All the money was donated. Members will be serving the Maxwelton Ruritans on Aug. 24. The group will be having a yard sale Saturday, Sept. 9, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. They will be serving hot dogs with all the fixings and homemade baked goods. The prayer retreat will be held at Cedar Lakes on Sept. 29-30. A one-day event will be held at the Church of God in Nitro on Oct. 21. It is called “Beauty for Ashes.”
The next meeting will be held Sept. 12. Carole Spencer dismissed in prayer.
