Summer is here and it’s a good time to explore your parks! Join a ranger or park partner for free hikes, talks, and other programs this June in New River Gorge National River and Bluestone National Scenic River. These guided activities provide a good opportunity to learn more about the natural world around us and the people and places that shaped area history. Be it a short walk through the historic railroad town of Thurmond, adventure skills building mini-classes at Camp Brookside, or a day hike along the Bluestone River, these varied activities are a good opportunity for adventures in parks.
Visit the park web site at https://www.nps.gov/neri/planyourvisit/programs.htm to see the complete June 2016 program schedule. Some programs do require reservations. Wear comfortable walking shoes for all guided walks. Water, snacks, a camera, and binoculars are other useful tools to bring along.
