The Richlands Ruritan club meeting on Apr. 13 at the Calvary Methodist Church provided a forum for presentations by several candidates for the judicial elections. The state judicial elections will be held on May 10.
Robert Richardson, the current sitting circuit court judge for Division 1 and a candidate for this position, made a presentation on his qualifications and accomplishments over the last two years. Jennifer Dent, candidate for the circuit court judgeship for Division 2 presented her qualifications for this position and gave an overview of her previous work in public service.
The main presentation was by Jim Childers, a candidate for the magistrate position. Childers gave a brief history of his previous public service, including his time as county sheriff, and outlined his qualifications for the magistrate position.
The Richlands Ruritan members have contributed over 160 hours of volunteer work to various community activities in the past month. The club members contributed 81 hours to community efforts in the month of March.
The Richlands Ruritan club meets on the second Wednesday of each month for a dinner meeting at the Calvary Methodist Church on Route 60W.
The Ruritan Civic organization is a national network of clubs working together for a stronger America. The Ruritan focus is to support community services in small towns and rural communities across America. The Ruritans were founded in 1928 in Holland, VA, and celebrated their 88th year this May. The Richlands Ruritan Club provides scholarships to local college students and 4-H campers, and maintains Tuckwiller Park.
