The Lewisburg House and Garden Club met on Aug. 24 at the residence of Rebecca Gaujot. Guest speaker was Master Gardener Willa Izzo who gave tips to members on plants to use in raised beds and square foot gardening.
President Townley Hamilton conducted the business meeting and wished the First Vice President the best in her new location although she would be missed by the club.
New officers were elected for 2017-2018 to begin their term next May. Suzanne Perilli Hancock will serve as president, Jeri Via, second vice president and Barbara Tuckwiller as corresponding secretary.
The popular annual Sunflower Contest will be held at Lewisburg Elementary on Sept. 30 when the members of Lewisburg House and Garden Club go to measure the sunflowers the students grew this summer.
A library project by the club is the distribution of a book by Brenda Moore, former president of WV Garden Club, and Jean Ohlmann of Louisville, KY, and illustrated by Emily Lacky of Chattanooga, TN. The book, titled “The Frightened Frog,” will be placed in the Lewisburg Elementary and Ronceverte Elementary libraries.

Peggy Brown will host the club at her residence on Sept. 28.
