Watch History Come Alive! on Monday, Feb. 15, at 6 p.m. at Lewisburg Elementary School Gymnasium where Harriet Tubman will be portrayed by Ilene Evans. All parents, students and community members are invited to attend the presentation of Harriet Tubman (1820-1913), leader of the Underground Railroad. The presentation is a History Alive! program of the West Virginia Humanities Council.
Harriet Tubman was born into slavery in Maryland but escaped through the Underground Railroad in 1849. She became the most famous leader of that network, aiding slaves in their escape to free states and Canada. When the Civil War erupted her underground experiences and knowledge of convert operations made her an invaluable resource to Federal officers. She served as a spy, nurse, scout and guide for Union troops.
Please join us for this exciting opportunity to interact with a historical figure through this History Alive! presentation.
