Helen Pearl Farley Hylton, age 100, of Alderson, formerly of Coal City, WV, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 10, 2024, at the Peyton Hospice House in Lewisburg, WV following a short illness.
Born Nov. 15, 1923, in Coal City, she was the daughter of the late George Dewey Farley, Sr. and the late Lessie Canady Farley. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Johnnie Prince Hylton; three brothers, George Dewey Farley, Jr., Verl Farley, and Darrell Farley; and three sisters, Eunice Davis, Patty Minnick, and Shirley Allen.
Mrs. Hylton was the bookkeeper for Lillybrook Coal Company at Lillybrook, WV, for eight years and then became a mother and homemaker. She was a graduate of Stoco High School at Lego, WV, and graduated from Beckley College in Beckley with a degree in bookkeeping. She attended the Coal City Community Church in Coal City and was an avid supporter of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Mrs. Hylton enjoyed walking, crocheting, and working crossword puzzles, and especially enjoyed her life on the Greenbrier River.
Survivors include two sons, Larry K. Hylton and his wife, Janet, of Fairmont, and Ronnie Hylton and his wife, Christina, of Alderson; five grandchildren, Candi Thomas and her husband, George, Heather Vincent and her husband, Derek, Allison Shaffer and her husband, Shawn, Jessica Hill and her husband, Derek, and Michael Hylton and his wife, Ann; 14 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren, a great-great-grandson due November of 2024; and many nieces and nephews.
Graveside services and burial will be Thursday, Aug. 15, at 12 noon at Sunset Memorial Park in Beckley with the Rev. Bev Colombo officiating.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
