The descendents of Austin Ballard Harvey and his wife, Mary Ann [nee Ellison] Harvey met at the Summers County 4-H Camp, south of Hinton for their annual reunion on Saturday, June 15, 2013.
After an opening song, prayer was made by Vernon Harvey followed by the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance.
Several prefatorial remarks were made relative those who were unable to attend and also those who had passed in the previous year. Additionally, a general outline was given for the plans of the day.
Inquiry was made concerning the oldest person in attendance. It was determined that Lloyd Harvey, 93, was the oldest. The longest married couple was Vernon and Lottie Harvey at 62 years. Isabella Minter, 5, appeared to be the youngest present.
Prior to lunch, a group picture was made on the lawn by Miss Mary Dameron. After the picture, Lloyd Harvey asked a blessing on the food and the group retired to the dining hall to partake of the abundance of food that had been brought.
As was stated last year, only two of Austin and Mary Ann Harvey’s grandchildren [third generation] are now living. They are Youell Harvey, 94 and Mary Louise [nee Harvey] Lilly, 97. Neither was able to attend this year’s reunion. Louise had planned to attend, but received a fall at 2 a.m. in the morning of the reunion which resulted in a broken hip.
Some of those who have passed away since last year are: Lewis Mason Barton, Dorothy Harvey Harmon, Benny Dale Houchins, Philip G. Harvey and others.
