The Greenbrier County Board of Education will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for the planned renovations at Frankford Elementary School on Thursday, May 29, at 10:30 a.m.

The West Virginia School Building Authority (WVSBA) has awarded $6.7 million to Greenbrier County Schools through its Needs-Based Funding program to address safety, accessibility, and infrastructure needs at Frankford Elementary School (FES) as outlined in the 2020-2030 Comprehensive Educational Facilities Plan (CEFP). The school will undergo a $7,307,000 renovation and construction project utilizing the $6,700,000 awarded by the WVSBA and an additional $607,000 committed by Greenbrier County Schools.

Project Highlights include: new center addition with connecting corridors to unify the school under one roof, additional classrooms, safe school entryway, elevator, administrative offices, improved bus and drop-off loop, demolition of outdated portable classrooms, electrical upgrades, sanitation packaging plant, and sprinkler systems throughout the facility

“This is such an exciting time for the students, staff, and community of Frankford Elementary, our school system, and the county overall. We look forward to partnering with the West Virginia School Building Authority to make these much-needed and long-awaited improvements at Frankford Elementary,” stated Superintendent Jeff Bryant.

In December, the WVSBA announced needs-based awards totaling more than $111.8 million to projects in 19 school districts throughout the state, including Berkeley ($25 million), Wood ($27.9 million), Wyoming ($15.7 million), Fayette ($15.6 million), Taylor ($7.3 million), Marshall ($9.2 million), Harrison ($5.8 million), Grant ($4.7 million), Jackson ($13.5 million), Greenbrier ($6.7 million), Mason ($1.2 million), Logan ($3 million), Randolph ($2.3 million), Calhoun ($4.8 million), Morgan ($4.2 million), Hancock ($987,000), Gilmer ($724,000), Tucker ($8.3 million), and Barbour ($1.6 million).

“Our staff, students, and families couldn’t be happier about the planned renovations to our school. We are especially excited about the safety and security upgrades included and appreciate the funding the School Building Authority has awarded. We can’t wait for the ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the completion of the project,” states Principal Linda King.
