Greenbrier Valley Theatre (GVT), The State Professional Theatre of West Virginia is preparing for a brand new season of live theatre. After a very successful 2023 season, which included closing with three sold-out productions, GVT is celebrating 57 Seasons of Live Entertainment with an exciting season of crowd-pleasing plays and musicals for the whole family.
The season will kick off by inviting everyone to pull out their deerstalker cap and magnifying glass with Ken Ludwig’s Baskerville: A Sherlock Holmes Mystery. Holmes and Watson are on the case in Ludwig’s murderously funny adaptation of Arthur Conan Doyle’s classic The Hound of the Baskerville.
Weaving music into the season will see the beautiful classic Some Enchanted Evening – The Songs of Rodgers & Hammerstein, as well as rock ‘n roll with Million Dollar Quartet. Some Enchanted Evening is an enthralling revue of some of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s most memorable works that will delight all R&H fans. Million Dollar Quartet tells the story of the night that rock ‘n roll changed forever when fate brought Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins and Elvis Presley together at Sun Records in Memphis for what would be one of the greatest jam sessions ever.
Rounding out the fall will be productions of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow followed by A Tuna Christmas. This new adaptation by John Heimbuch and Jon Ferguson offers a dynamic ensemble-based retelling of the famous Washington Irving short story in a spooktacular, crowd-pleasing theatrical event.
A Tuna Christmas is the hilarious sequel to Ed Howard, Joe Sears and Jaston Williams’ cult favorite Greater Tuna. It’s Christmastime in Tuna, the third-smallest town in Texas. Various Yuletide shenanigans are happening in town and over 20 colorful Tuna denizens – all played by two actors – paint an elaborate and humorous portrait of stereotypes in small towns of the South.
Greenbrier Valley Theatre looks forward to producing a number of great works this year, including the Al Jeter Music Series, the continuation of The Met Live in HD Series, and our part in the countywide collaboration on The Hunchback of Notre Dame. GVT is sure to bring something for everyone to the stage this year. Early Bird season tickets go on sale Feb. 13, and individual tickets go on sale Mar. 18.
