The 37th annual Greenbrier Valley Shrine Club Marching Bands Classic will be held Saturday, Sept. 28 in downtown Lewisburg and Fairlea, featuring eight high school and two middle school marching bands in a Tournament of Bands-sanctioned competition.
The traditional fall Shriners’ Day includes the members of the Greenbrier Valley Club soliciting donations throughout the day in the Lewisburg-Fairlea-Ronceverte area, a marching band competition parade featuring other local entries as well as Shrine-related units in downtown Lewisburg at 4 p.m. and the field competition beginning at 6:30 p.m. in Spartan Stadium on the campus of Greenbrier East High School, off US 219 South in Fairlea.
Participating bands scheduled for the competitions include: Eastern Greenbrier Middle School, Marlinton Middle School, Tygarts Valley High School, Pocahontas County High School, Oak Hill High School, Woodrow Wilson High School, Hurricane High School, Parkersburg High School, St. Albans High School and the host Greenbrier East High School.
Using a theme “Strong Legs March so Weak Ones May Walk,” the competition fields include parade, field show general effect, field conductor, percussion, auxiliary, and musicianship with the judges appointed by the Tournament of Bands organization. There will be a gate admission for the field competition.
The field competition will also mark the grand opening of the new home-side concession stand in Spartan Stadium, built and operated by the Greenbrier East High School Music Boosters who will be offering a full menu at the marching band classic. Earlier on Sept. 28, the host Spartan Marching Band will participate in the annual Autumn Fest Parade in Frankford.
