Twelve graduates received diplomas in a ceremony held on Aug. 24, at the Eastern Greenbrier Middle School Auditorium. Sallie Dalton, superintendent of Greenbrier County Schools presented each graduate with a diploma signifying completion of the Greenbrier County Schools program, after being introduced by Julie Shiflet, director of CTE/Adult Education. Pamela Lewis, coordinator/instructor, along with Melanie Bradley, full time instructor, Hettie Blair and Rae Smith, part time instructors, presented each graduate a pin and Nursing Lamp to signify successful completion of their year-long training.
Carolina Wolfe presented the president’s address, which was followed by an introduction of the commencement speaker by Brandy Ratliff. The Commencement Address was delivered by Bobbie Lockard, RNLockard recently retired from Greenbrier Valley Medical Center after practicing nursing in a variety of settings for over 30 years. In her address, she shared her struggle to gain her nursing education and her beginning years of nursing as an LPN. Lockard emphasized that the education and experiences they had experienced over the past year would assist them in their future endeavors.
Charity Loudermilk, Morgan Estep and Emily Wiley gave the audience a brief history on the significance of the nursing caps, pins and lamps. Following the class recital of the Practical Nurse’s Pledge, Median Ramsey concluded the ceremony with a Nurse’s Prayer.
Greenbrier School of Practical Nursing (formerly Region IV) is located on the campus of Greenbrier East High School. Each spring they accept 25 adult students for the rigorous 12-month program. The current faculty is composed of Pamela Lewis, coordinator/instructor, Melanie Bradley, full time instructor, and Hettie Blair, part-time instructor.
