Greenbrier County Special Olympics announces the following fundraisers for January:

• Thursday/Friday, Jan. 9/10, Community Giveback Program at the Lewisburg Ruby Tuesday, 151 Coleman Drive. Ruby Tuesday will donate 20 percent of sales to the Greenbrier County Special Olympics when customers present a flyer at time of payment. Supporters may pick up flyers at Jim’s Drive-In on Rt. 60 West in Lewisburg, Hair Fantastic in Fairlea, BB&T Bank in Lewisburg, Greenbrier Bowling Center in Lewisburg, Rupert Service Center, Handy Place/Exxon in Rupert, New River Community College in Lewisburg, and Holiday Inn Express in Lewisburg. A flyer can also be emailed to you by contacting Linda Weikle, 304-645-0058.

• Saturday, Jan. 18, 8-10 a.m., Pancake Breakfast at the Lewisburg Applebees, 200 Piercy Drive. Tickets are $5 and are available from Special Olympics members and at the door. Breakfast includes pancakes, sausage and a drink. The breakfast is eat-in only; no carryouts. Please note that the time printed on the tickets is not correct.

Direct donations may be made by check to “Greenbrier County Special Olympics” and mailed to Tamera Fraley, Director, Greenbrier County Special Olympics, 14 Drewery Avenue, White Sulphur Springs, WV 24986. The funds raised at this event will go towards the registration fees for the state Basketball and Cheerleading competitions in March. It costs about $2,000 for each tournament that athletes and volunteers attend. We appreciate the support of the community!

Greenbrier County Special Olympics is a nonprofit organization that uses its funds to purchase T-shirts/uniforms, pay registration fees for state events, and other fees as needed for its athletes. Special Olympics offers children and adults with intellectual disabilities comprehensive year-round training and competition in Olympic-type sports. It is open to all people with intellectual disabilities who are at least 8 years old, regardless of the degree of their disability. Athletes interested in participating in Greenbrier County Special Olympics may contact Tamera Fraley at 304-536-3171.
