The Greenbrier County Republican Club met at Cook’s Country Kitchen on Thursday, Nov. 7, for its regular monthly meeting. Following the invocation and Pledge of Allegiance, The Club elected new officers to serve through the calendar years of 2025 and 2026: Brentz Thompson, president; Douglas McKinney, M.D., vice-president central district; Robert “Trey” Holland, vice-president, eastern district; Ali McCloud, treasurer; and Faye Dunford, secretary.
Some 40 members and guests engaged in a spirited discussion of the Nov. 5 election results and congratulated themselves on a sweep of all but one elected county offices as well as all statewide offices. Several emphasized that their work must continue as opposition forces are already organizing resistance to the new Trump administration.
Former delegate George “Boogie” Ambler summarized the comments as this is a time to rejoice and enjoy the fruits of our labors but to realize that we must immediately begin work for the 2026 interim elections remembering how the expected Red Wave of 2022 failed to materialize.
The Club’s Annual Christmas Dinner is fast approaching on Saturday, Dec. 14, at 6:30 p.m. at the Dutch Haus Restaurant. In view of the economic slump of the Bidenomics, the tickets will be only $40 per person.
The keynote speaker for the dinner is J.B. McCuskey, WV Auditor and Attorney General-elect. He is expected to discuss the innovations and transparency he has made in the auditor’s office and plans to continue the successful work of Governor-elect Patrick Morrisey in his 12 years as Attorney General.
For more information on the dinner and for tickets you may call 304-641-1205.
Preliminary discussion was held about plans to have the annual spring dinner as a St. Patrick’s Day dinner honoring Governor Patrick Morrisey on Saturday, Mar. 15, 2025. Details will be forthcoming in the near future.
Two members announced their intention to start a scholarship plan for Greenbrier County Republican college students attending college in West Virginia. Eligibility standards will be promulgated in time for the fall semester of 2025. The generosity of the members is applauded.
President Brentz Thompson discussed his plans to encourage membership and participation in the Club including members who have offered to pay dues of those who cannot afford them.
Dana Payne, proprietress of Cook’s Country kitchen, was thanked for providing the venue which will become the permanent meeting site for The Club.
The December meeting will be on Thursday, Dec. 5.
