The Greenbrier County Commission, last week, awarded the contract for after-hours cleaning of the county courthouse facilities to Holland Home and Business Solutions. Holland submitted a proposal in the amount of $350 per cleaning visit. The only other proposal submitted, that being from Authentic Construction, was for $400 per visit.
After addressing several personnel matters, commissioners considered a claims settlement related to litigation against Perdue Pharma. On hand to explain the settlement, which has been presented by outside counsel, was county attorney Britt Ludwig.
“Today’s request requires two actions from the commission,” Ludwig explained. “The first of which is to vote on the Perdue Bankruptcy plan.”
“Because Perdue has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, litigants are creditors in the bankruptcy proceeding,” Ludwig continued. “Local jurisdictions have to approve the plan, which incorporates the settlement agreement resolving the opioid litigation to which we are a party.”
“The second action would be to approve the Sackler participation agreement,” Ludwig added. “You may be aware that the Sackler family are the principals of Perdue Pharma, so their participation individually has been incorporated into the settlement.”
Both actions, Ludwig noted, must be approved by the commission in order for Greenbrier County to participate in the direct settlement claimant. With no further discussion, the commission approved both the Perdue Pharma bankruptcy plan, as well as the Sackler participation agreement.
In other business, commissioners approved the finalization of the SM-6 bond related to the Greenbrier GigReady Broadband project, and the payment of Resolution 6 from the White Sulphur Springs TOF (Tax Increment Funding) funds – in the amount of $47,035.37 – for the Wastewater Treatment Plant disinfection project.
Agenda item number 9 – consideration of proposed Greenbrier County Investment Policy – was moved to a future meeting. Before adjourning, commissioners made several announcements:
- The draft of the 2035 Greenbrier County Comprehensive Plan is available for review and public comment. It can be accessed at www.greenbriercounty.net. Comments will be accepted in written form through Aug. 27.
- An open request for proposals has been issued for the Day Report roof project. The project is to be completed at the old bank building in Ronceverte.
- An open request for proposals has been issued for the courthouse window replacement project. The work is to be performed in the original portion of the courthouse building only.
- An open request for proposals has been issued for the website development and dot-gov domain migration. The winning proposal will provide a new hosting service for existing information transfer.
- An open request for proposals has been issued for a managed service provider for Greenbrier County 911 and Emergency Management. For questions regarding this project, contact Director Don Havens, at 304-645-5444.
The next regular meeting of the Greenbrier County Commission is scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 26, at 10 a.m.
