Over 100 attendees placed dog tags alongside newly-planted apple trees just outside Rainelle on Saturday, Sept. 14, in remembrance of those who have perished in the Global War on Terror. The land was donated by Bob Ingram to host a “Living Memorial” for Gold Star Families. The Rainelle Chapter of the Gold Star Mothers of West Virginia organized the event alongside the West Virginia Department of Agriculture. They hope to have one in every county eventually with the help of Gold Star Families.
Trees were planted by Greenbrier West High School Future Farmers of America volunteers, alongside help and assistance from Greenbrier West JROTC, students from the Greenbrier County technical center, and a host of other community organizations.
