New Port Richey, FL-George Robert Hutchinson, 84, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2021, at his home in New Port Richey, FL, surrounded by his beloved wife Patricia of 65 years and his four children. George, a proud West Virginian, was born in Charleston, WV, the son of the late Hugh F. Hutchinson, Sr. and Nancy Lee Howes Hutchinson.
George grew up on what was then known as Rock Acres Farm, located next to Hern’s Mill Covered Bridge in Lewisburg. George always called Lewisburg home, even though he resided in Florida since 1970. In his youth, George attended Woodberry Forest School in Orange, VA, and St. James School in Hagerstown, MD. After high school, George enlisted in the United States Navy, proudly serving his country for two years in the Pacific. After his honorable discharge, George returned to civilian life in the Greenbrier Valley of West Virginia, working for his father who owned Greenbrier Dairy Products Company. He remained in the food and dairy industry until his retirement in 1996.
George is survived by his four children, Anne Fitzgerald (John), Irvine, California; Sheila Howes Hutchinson, Burke, Virginia; George Hutchinson Jr. (Jeanie), Canal Fulton, Ohio; and Ted Hutchinson (Kelley), New Port Richey, Florida. George was immensely proud of his 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. George’s three brothers, Hugh F. Hutchinson, Jr. (Sally) Fort Myers, FL; David Lee Hutchinson, Salem, VA; and Charles Early Hutchinson (Lynn), Rush, KY, also survives him. George’s wife Patricia passed away on Sept. 11, 2021, just a month after George’s passing.
George will be fondly remembered for his love of Lewisburg, West Virginia football, a good steak and a bowl of ice cream, but his greatest love was his family. A private Celebration of Life will be held in Lewisburg in November.
