Alderson-George Edward Lilly, Sr., 64, formerly of Beckley, went to be with his wife, Rose Mary Lilly, on Tuesday, Apr. 29, 2014, at his home in Alderson, following a long battle with cancer.

Born Sept. 24, 1949, in Beckley, he was the son of the late Ida Mae Lilly.

Mr. Lilly was a retired coal miner, having retired from Maple Meadow Mining, Fairdale, after 17 years of service. He was a very proud member and past president of Local Union 1961 of the United Mine Workers of America, having served as president for 14 years. Mr. Lilly enjoyed fishing, spending time on the river, playing cards, and he loved to spend time with his family and friends.

Survivors include: his son and best friend, George Edward “Carbide” Lilly, Jr. and wife Kimberly of Beckley; his daughter and baby girl, Badonna Mae Lilly of West Deptford, NJ; five grandchildren, Ethan, Logan, Justin, Ayden and Jessica; three sisters, Lynda Tilley, Victoria Fronske and Barbara Johnson; a very special aunt, Joan Richmond of Beaver; a very special brother, Rupert “Pidge”’ Crouch and wife Anna Ruth, of Eufaula, AL; several nieces and nephews; and many dear, family-like friends.

“Good night, sweet dreams, we love you with all our hearts.”

A private memorial service for friends and family will be held at a later date.

Online condolences and expressions of sympathy can be sent to Mr. Lilly’s family at klilly1307@suddenlink.net.

Arrangements by Lobban Funeral Home, Alderson.
