Members of the General Andrew Lewis Chapter of the National Society of the American Revolu-tion met at the home of Don and Marit Withrow earlier this month.

The General Andrew Lewis Chapter of the National Society of the American Revolution met Sept. 18 at the home of Don and Marit Withrow for their monthly meeting. Those in attendance were members Mary Fullen, Karen Lee McClung, Addie Goodrich, Doris Kasley, Nancy Greenstreet, Gretchen Lovett, Suzanne Cronquist, Sissy Isaac, Judy Deegans, Jodie Nidey, Mimi DeOlloqui-Turner, Marit Withrow, Carol Olson, Suzanne Snyder and Deborah Phillips. Also in attendance were prospective members Kerry Johnson and Susan Stentz.

Regent Deborah Phillips called the meeting to order. Following the completion of the business meeting and committee reports, Regent Phillips introduced Dr. Don Withrow as the main speaker. Withrow is an active member of the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR). He spoke to the group about the plans his Chapter of (SAR) has for the celebration of the 250th anniversary of our nation. He also spoke about wealth of information on the web site of the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution.

Following Dr. Withrow’s presentation, hostesses Dr. Gretchen Lovett and Marit Withrow treated the club to Colonial American refreshments in their lovely dining room. Lovett made two varieties of cookies from Mount Vernon recipes. Withrow had a delicious punch and Maderia was offered.

The General Andrew Lewis Chapter will help host an open house for Veterans at the Veterans Administration Clinic in Fairlea on Sept. 29.

The next meeting of the General Andrew Lewis Chapter will be Oct. 16 in the Tavern Room of the North House Museum. The speaker will be Dr. Robert Conte, retired historian at The Greenbrier.

The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution is a non-profit, non-political women’s service organization whose main objectives are historic preservation, education and patriotism. Members are all lineal descendants of those who supported the cause of independence in the Revolutionary War back in 1776. If you are interested in the Daughters of the American Revolution, call Registrar Sandra Cowan at 681-215-5303 in the afternoon.
