Greenbrier East High School will hold golf tryouts on Monday, Aug. 7, and Tuesday, Aug. 8, from 4-5:30 p.m. at the driving range across from Magic Mart, behind Sears, in Fairlea. All players are required to have had a physical since June 1, 2017, in order to try out.
Physical forms can be downloaded from the WVSSAC website; the form is the Student Athlete physical form. If you have had one since June 1, and it is at the school, that is acceptable. The completed physical can be brought to tryouts. Physicals are required before trying out.
School team pictures will be taken the week of Aug. 7 after tryouts.
The team will sell raffle tickets again this year to raise money for team expenses such as driving range expenses, rental van costs including gas for away matches, and state tournament expenses the first week in October, if the team qualifies. The tickets are $20 each and are for a golf package for four, plus carts, at the Old White Course at The Greenbrier. Another raffle will feature a prize of four players, plus carts, for the Greenbrier Sporting Club Sam Snead Course to raise money for the Eastern Greenbrier Middle School golf team.
Drawings will held Saturday, July 22. If you can sell any of these or know anyone who wants to buy some, contact coach Terry Koon at 304-992-9967 via text message, or coach Mac Parks. Koons’ mailing address is P.O Box 1848, Lewisburg, WV 24901. Checks can be made payable to “GEHS Golf” for the Old White raffle or “EGMS Booster-Golf” for the Snead Course raffle. Koons will mail ticket receipts to any who send money to him.
Koons and Parks will be selling tickets at local golf tournaments for the next month plus all week during the Greenbrier Classic.
