The Greenbrier East Golf Team finished second out of eight teams in the AAA Region 3 tournament held on Sept. 26 at the Lewisburg Elk’s Club. The top two teams won a trip to the State Tournament held at Oglebay Park in Wheeling, Speidel Course, held on Oct. 4 and 5. George Washington finished first with two low medalists from Woodrow Wilson also qualifying. There are 29 AAA teams in the state and only eight made it to the State Tournament with GEHS being one of the eight. There were 120 players from AAA, AA, and A schools who competed for two days.
The GEHS team finished the first day and was seventh out of eight teams for AAA. The second day they were 10 shots better. GEHS finished tied for sixth.
The two-day scores for Greenbrier East on the Par 71 Speidel Course, Oglebay Park, Wheeling, were Jacobey Gore 91-82=173, Gavin Ray 86-88=174, Colin Wiley 90-87=177 and Dwain Sheppard 95-91=186. Greenbrier East finished tied for sixth out of eight AAA teams. Out of 40 AAA players, Jacobey Gore finished 20th, Gavin Ray was 22nd, Colin Wiley was 25th and Dwain Sheppard was 35th.
Cabell Midland finished first with a total of 455 for a two day total, counting the low three players scores each day. Washington was second with 480. Spring Mills was third with 503. George Washington was fourth with 513, Parkersburg was fifth with 513, Greenbrier East had 524 for T-6th. Buckhannon was 524 for T-6th and Morgantown was eighth with 538.
