On Wednesday, Aug. 17, Greenbrier East High School took six players to the Raven Golf Course at Snowshoe. After playing one hole, play was cancelled due to severe sustained lightning. Those players who made the trip were Jacobey Gore, Gavin Ray, Cody Shaffer, Colin Wiley, Jared Whitt and Dwain Sheppard.
On Thursday, Aug. 18, the GEHS team traveled to Covington, VA, to play Covington High School at Cliffview Golf Course for nine holes on the par 36 front 9. Scores for East were Gavin Ray – 36 (medalist), Jacobey Gore – 37, Cody Shaffer – 37, Colin Wiley – 39, Norris Beard – 39, Sam Jewell – 40, Berkley Adwell – 48, Jared Whitt – 49, Jensen Brown – 49, Joshua White – 53, Brett Napier – 55 and Steele Hall – 60.
Covington’s scores were Caleb Haynes – 41, Kyle Arritt – 54, Seth Fertig – 47, Justin Brown – 54, Benny Elmore – 63 and Sam Brown – 67.
East girls Kara Vaughan and Trinity Corby played a Captain’s Choice with Covington players Allison Douglas and Shyon Brown and, as a team, had a 46.
Greenbrier East had 36 players on Tuesday, Aug. 23, at the Lewisburg Elk’s Club – par 34-front 9. Schools attending were Independence, Nicholas County, Covington, Richwood, and Greenbrier West as well as Greenbrier East. East had 15 boys and two girls playing. Scores were as follows:
