Friends for Life (FFL) sanctuary is conducting a shoe collection drive to raise funds to help with the cost of caring for its mostly-senior dogs and cats. They’ll be accepting gently-worn (still in good wearable shape) and new shoes, any size and type, through June 17.
Over the past 20 years, Friends for Life has accepted dogs, cats, and litters of puppies and kittens from all over Greenbrier County and surrounding areas. Now, FFL needs help.
“With so many senior animals, veterinary care is more frequent, plus there are a number of animals on medications for arthritis and other health issues. We also need several orthopedic dog beds and more double-sided fleece pads,” says FFL founder and president Donna Hinkle.“Funds from the shoes collected will help FFL but also support people in other countries who are trying to make their lives better. It’s a win-win for everyone.”
All shoes donated to the sanctuary will be purchased by Florida-based Funds2Orgs, which then redistributes the shoes through their network of micro-enterprise partners in developing nations. Funds2Orgs helps impoverished people start, maintain and grow businesses in countries such as Haiti, Honduras, and other nations in Central America and Africa. Proceeds from the shoe sales in those countries are used to feed, clothe and house families.
More information will be in the papers and on FFL’s petfinder link, friendsforlifewv.petfinder.com, soon for drop-off locations in other areas, but right now donors can leave shoes at Greenbrier Veterinary Hospital on Rt. 219 north of Lewisburg, and Tractor Supply in Fairlea.
