The Greenbrier County Farmland Protection Board (GCFPB) is currently accepting applications for conservation easements. Deadline for applications is Sept. 28.
The goal of the federal, state and local farmland protection program is to offset development pressure and preserve farmland and green space. It is a voluntary program that offers landowners the opportunity to sell or donate a permanent conservation easement on qualifying farmland. The USDA’s Natural Resource and Conservation Service partners with the GCFPB to purchase development rights on selected farms in order to keep productive farmland in agricultural use.
Program information and applications may be obtained by calling 304-520-3221 and leaving a message or emailing greenbrier@wvfp.org.
