The GEHS Golf Gold Team and Green Team played a match on Sept. 12 at Pipestem for nine holes on the par 36 front nine at Cliffview Golf Course in Covington. Each team consisted of six players, which count the low four total.
The Gold Team finished first with a total of 152. Individual scores were as follows: Madison Erskine 30 (Madison was the Medalist with a 6 under par and had his 1st hole-in-one on #7 par 3-117 yards with a smooth wedge that landed past the hole and spun back into the cup. Madison had five birdies, one eagle (hole-in-one), two pars and one bogie); Walker Dent 38, Griffin King 40, Owen Wood 44, Tyler Totten 44 and Lindsey Ray 46.
The Green Team finished second with 161. Scores were: Thomas Willis 37, Cameron Sherwood 39, Luke Hanna 45, Jacob White 46, Logan Scott 52 and Karee Diem 54.
Covington finished third with 204. Scores were: Josh Bush 44, Seth Fertig 49, Caleb Haynes 54, Ethan Hinton 57 and Caleb Morrison 68.
The Gold Team with four players was set to play a nine hole match at Grandview Golf Course in Beckley on Sept. 18 against Woodrow Wilson and two other schools. The last match of the season was slated Thursday, Sept. 19 at the Greenbrier Hills Golf course in Rainelle against Greenbrier West for a 9-hole match. All 12 players from GEHS were set to play in the last match.
The Gold Team’s top four players, Walker Dent, Madison Erskine, Owen Wood and Griffin King are preparing to play on Tuesday, Oct. 1 in the Regional Tournament at Berry Hills Country Club in Charleston for a chance to go to the State Tournament at Wheeling, Oglebay Park, Speidel Course on Oct. 8 and 9.
There will be 10 teams in the Regional and the low two teams counting three player totals will go to the State Tournament plus two medalists not on either team for a total of 10 players going to Wheeling from the Regional.
