Edwin Lee Skeens passed away peacefully on Aug. 30, 2025.

Edwin was born on Feb. 20, 1938, in McComas, WV, to Ernest Morris Skeens and Ethel Dunn.

He is survived by his two sons, Edwin Skeens, Jr. (Judi French) and Joel Skeens (Lisa), grandchildren Julia Eveslage, Joseph Skeens and Joel Skeens, Jr., siblings Janet Kay Hoover (Bill), Drema O’Brien (Ed), Curtis Ellison (Linda) and Terry Ellison (Donna). He loved many nieces and nephews and close friends.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 59 years, Joyce Skeens, sister, Nancy Machia and brother, Joseph Skeens.

Proud to be born and raised in West Virginia, he enjoyed fishing, gardening, bowling, taking long drives in the country, road trips and bus trips all over the U.S., cooking delicious Southern style breakfasts for loved ones, and spending time with family along the Greenbrier River. He served in the Army from 1955-1958 and was a highly successful business manager for Safeway grocery stores in Washington, DC, Lexington and Covington, VA. Hard work was an inherent value, and he devoted many long hours working to support his wife and children over the years. During his retirement years he found great joy working at Watts Roost Vineyard in Lewisburg, WV, where he became an expert about wine production and treasured his time working in the tasting room and providing tours of the vineyard.

“The life of the party” described his interactions with family and friends. He embraced a playful and humorous approach to life and was hospitable to everyone he knew, including his grandsons, nieces and nephews, and neighborhood children, who were lucky enough to always get candy and extra change that he saved for them. He will be remembered for his generosity, humor, feistiness, and a strong dedication to supporting his family through hard work and sacrifice.
