Alderson-Delmore Keith Highlander, 77, passed away oThursday, Apr. 14, 2016, at Charleston Area Medical Center-Memorial Division, Charleston, WV, following a sudden illness.
Born Feb. 6, 1939, in Asbury, he was the son of the late Joe Theodore and Blanche Virginia Kincaid Highlander.
Mr. Highlander was a wind-up operator in film, having retired from Hercules, Inc. in Covington, VA, after many years of service. He was a 1956 graduate of Alderson High School in Alderson, where he was very active in sports. Mr. Highlander served his Country in the United States Army, and was a member of the Johnson Memorial United Methodist Church in Alderson. He was an avid fan of the WVU Mountaineer football and basketball programs, and he loved to spend time with his friends, visiting at the Alderson Big Wheel Restaurant.
Survivors include his daughter, Angela Marie Highlander and her fiance, Bruce Battaile, of Beckley; two granddaughters, Alison Stewart of Alderson and Lauren Stewart of Alderson; three brothers, Joe Highlander of Hampton, VA, Leonard Highlander of Roanoke, VA and Coleman “Coco” Highlander and wife Betty of Alderson; two sisters, Dona Copenhaver and husband Ray of Woodbridge, VA and Leona Maynard of Newport News, VA; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Apr. 19, at the Lobban Funeral Home Chapel, Alderson, where Pastor David Highlander officiated. Burial was in the Fletcher Addition of the Alderson Cemetery, Alderson.
Friends called Monday evening, Apr. 18, at the funeral home.
Family and friends served as pallbearers.
