Dear Recycle Lady,
What are fair trade products?
Seeking Answers
Dear Seeking Answers,
Fair trade products are products that are sustainably and ethically produced by workers who are paid a fair wage. According to www.fairtradeamerica.org, the Fairtrade Seal is the Most Recognized & Trusted Ethical Label in the World. Fair Trade coffee is one of the more recognized products and is available locally. Other fair trade products include tea, sugar, clothing, chocolate, wine, decorations, and beauty products. Readers, if you know where any of these items can be purchased locally, please let me know.
Dear Recycle Lady,
When I opened a box containing my prescription, the use and direction sheet was folded several times and held together with a soft glue. Can this folded sheet be recycled without being unfolded? Must the glue be removed? The prescription inside was in an aluminum foil packet with directions printed on a label glued to the foil. Must the label be removed before recycling the aluminum foil?
Cheers for Eco-friendly Packaging
Dear Cheers for Eco-friendly Packaging,
The folded sheet of paper can be recycled in its original condition and the glue does not need to be removed. However, the label on aluminum foil packet must be removed before the foil is recycled with aluminum foil and pans. Kudos to the company for its environmentally friendly packaging. Hopefully, more companies will consider eco-friendly packaging for their products.
Dear Recycle Lady,
What is a green burial?
News to Me
Dear News to Me,
Green burials are eco-friendly burials. No embalming chemicals are used. The body is buried in a biodegradable coffin or wrapped in a shroud. There is no burial vault. Further information and a state listing of cemeteries and funeral professionals who provide these services can be found at www.GreenBurialCouncil.org. Direct burials are a similar to green burials but are not as eco-friendly. In a direct burial there is an immediate burial of the body in a simple container, without embalming or viewing. Green burials or direct burials can both be followed with a graveside service or memorial service at your place of worship.
