DARE to CRUZ Car Show a great success

The 10th Anniversary of the DARE to CRUZ Car Show saw record entries, record fundraising, and beautiful weather.

The car show is a annual fundraiser for the Lewisburg Police Department DARE program, which is a drug resistance program taught in 5th grade classes at Lewisburg Elementary School. There were 204 registered entries in this year’s show. A total of $4,166 was raised. These funds were from entry fees, donations, T-shirt and hat sales, a raffle, and 50/50 drawing from Ron Snedegar of Matco Tools. Snedegar is a long time supporter of the show, and his efforts contributed $1,174 towards the cause. Wilson Brothers NAPA Auto Parts also contributed a portion of their sales of the day to the program. Matco Tools, NAPA and Fisher Auto Parts Each had their trucks at the show.

Eight specialty trophies were awarded to the following individuals: Mayors Choice: Randy Jarrell, Scott Depot, 1953 Willy’s station wagon. Lewisburg Police Department Choice: Mike Bowen, Covington, VA, 1963 C-10 pick-up. DARE Officers’ Choice: David and Carolyn Johnson, Hinton, 1931 Chevy Coupe. Merchants Choice: James Hughes, Frankford, 1955 Chevrolet sedan. Josh Massie Memorial Award: Roger Childers, White Sulphur Springs, 1968 Chevrolet Camaro. Doug Massie Memorial Award: James Bowyer, Covington, VA, 1969 Plymouth Barracuda. Rick Skaggs Memorial Award: Brent Lynch, White Sulphur Springs, 1964 C-10 Chevrolet pick up. Wade Sayers Memorial Award: A.W. Maddy, Nimitz, 1971 VW Beetle.
