The General Andrew Lewis Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) was invited by Ruann Handy, Chief of the Center for Development & Civic Engagement at the VA Hospital Center in Beckley to participate in an open house at the Veterans Administration Clinic in Fairlea. The Chapter was proud to be asked and readily agreed to help. The open house was held on Sept. 29 and was well attended. Several members donated money to underwrite the event. The Chapter provided coffee, water and various pastries. Regent Deborah Philips graciously welcomed the veterans and invited them to have refreshments. Those assisting were Carol Olson, Suzanne Snyder and Vice Regent Judy Deegans.
The General Andrew Lewis Chapter was especially glad to have retired U. S. Army Colonel Michael Rose stop by. Col. Rose told Regent Phillips, “It was nice seeing you and your DAR associates this morning.”
The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution is a non-profit, non-political women’s service organization whose main objectives are historic preservation, education and patriotism. Members are all lineal descendants of those who supported the cause of independence in the Revolutionary War back in 1776.
