On Oct. 17, members, volunteers and supporters of CrossFit Esprit and Greenbrier Valley Fitness in Lewisburg, Death By CrossFit in Princeton and CrossFit West Virginia in Charelston participated in an annual breast cancer awareness fundraiser, “Barbells for Boobs 2015.” This one-day event held in Lewisburg raised more than $1,400 that goes directly to the Barbells for Boobs organization.
Barbells for Boobs is “a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to the early detection of breast cancer, with an emphasis on women under the age of 40 and men. Inspired by athletes everywhere, local communities come together, fundraise, and help detect potentially life threatening breast cancer occurrences.”
All athletes involved participated in a workout named “Grace,” which includes movements associated with Olympic Weightlifting. It consists of 30 clean and jerks at 135 lbs for men and 95 lbs for women. A wide variety of ages and skill levels participated, re-enforcing that CrossFit can be for anyone. “Any time we can gather people in our community through fitness and support such an important cause is remarkable. We’ve surpassed our last year’s total amount and that is a testament of all the wonderful people involved,” says Dwight Bundy, owner of CrossFit Esprit and Greenbrier Valley Fitness.
