Frank and Jean Anne Pettit Haranzo of Roanoke, VA, returned to the Saturday vigil Mass at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in White Sulphur Springs to have their 61st anniversary blessed by the pastor, the Rev. James Conyers.
Jean Anne, a native of White Sulphur Springs, and Frank Haranzo were married in the “newly constructed” St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church on May 20, 1960, becoming the first to be married in the church which serves northeastern Monroe County and eastern Greenbrier County, including the patrons at The Greenbrier resort, and extreme western Alleghany County.
Ironically, the last couple married in the “old” church were also later Virginia residents, the late Chris and Ann Neville of Alleghany.
St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church is located on the western edge of the city of White Sulphur Springs, across from The Greenbrier Hotel Clinic on US 60 West.
