Energy Express, WVU Extension’s award-winning literacy program, is returning this summer to bring reading and nutrition education to children across West Virginia. The program is currently seeking individuals to serve as mentors for four sites in Greenbrier County. Our sites will be located at Alderson, Frankford, Rainelle, and White Sulphur Springs.
AmeriCorps members are needed to serve as mentors for children in the program. Mentors will work seven weeks during the summer, from June 9 to July 29. Training will be provided. One Mentor will work in a classroom with up to eight children, age Kindergarten to 5th grade. Each site has a Site Supervisor to manage the program.
AmeriCorps members/Mentors are college students who want to help children in reading, writing, art and drama. Mentors are eligible to receive a $1,374.60 educational award for school, $2,350 living allowance/salary and 300 service hours.
Eligible Mentors must be at least 18 years old before June 9, 2022 and enrolled in a higher education course, vocation or college this fall. Applications are available now and will stay open until all positions are filled. Contact the Greenbrier County Extension office at 304-647-7408 for any further information or questions.
